최명진 작가는 관계 속 위로와 치유를 주제로 한 회화 작업을 꾸준히 이어오고 있다. 자유롭게 변형시킨 인간의 형태를 통해 인간의 심리를 무채색과 단색 위주의 색감을 사용하여 상처받은 인간의 감정을 캔버스에 담아낸다. 작품 속 굵은 직선과 단색의 색감은 때로는 차갑고 거칠게 다가오지만, 그 안에 내포된 따뜻한 의미와 감성은 관람객에게 깊은 위안과 치유의 힘을 전달한다.

최명진 작가의 대표 시리즈인 ‘Best Hugger’는 서로를 꼭 껴안고 있는 인물들을 통해 포옹이라는 단순하지만 본질적인 행위를 조명한다. 이 시리즈는 현대인의 상처받은 마음을 치유할 수 있는 것은 가족, 연인, 친구의 따뜻한 포옹임을 이야기한다. 단순하고 큼직한 얼굴과 투박하면서도 무뚝뚝한 표정 속에는 말로 표현하기 어려운 감정이 고스란히 담겨있다. 작가가 그려낸 인물들은 지금 현대 사회를 살아가는 우리의 모습과도 닮아 있다.

이번 전시에서는 2025년 신작을 위주로 다수의 ‘Best hugger’ 시리즈 평면 회화 작품들이 공개된다. 사람 간의 포옹, 기도, 다양한 모습을 통해 삶의 고요한 순간과 마음의 평안을 포착하여, 관람객들에게 따뜻한 메시지를 전달한다. 

Artist Choi Myeong-jin has been consistently creating paintings on the theme of comfort and healing in relationships. Through freely transformed human forms, the artist captures human psychology and wounded human emotions on canvas using achromatic and monochrome colors. The bold straight lines and monochrome colors in the work sometimes seem cold and rough, but the warm meaning and emotions contained within them convey deep comfort and healing power to the viewer.

Artist Choi Myeong-jin’s representative series ‘Best Hugger’, illuminates the simple but essential act of hugging through characters hugging each other tightly. It tells us that the warm hugs of family, lovers, and friends can heal the wounded of modern people. the simple and large faces and the rough and blunt __EXPRESSION__s contain emotions that are difficult to express in words. The characters drawn by the artist also resemble the way we live in modern society.

This exhibition will showcase a number of flat paintings from the ‘Best hugger; series, focusing on new works from 2025. Through hugs, prayers, and various scenes between people, the artist captures quiet moments in life and peace of mind, delivering a warm message to viewers.
